In the early morning hours of October 24, 2017, Adeline Zalas, 94, went home to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Adeline was born June 25, 1923 in South Bend, the daughter of late Sylvester and Lottie “Anna” (Piechocki) Kajzer. On April 7, 1945, she married Stanley Zalas and they moved to Mishawaka in 1951 and returned to South Bend in 2006.

Adeline was a homemaker and was employed for several years in the cafeteria at Beiger Elementary School in Mishawaka. She enjoyed cooking, baking and camping at Hog Back Lake near Angola.

Adeline was a sweet soul who loved the Lord and faithfully attended Calvary Temple Church, Grace Community Church, Hillside Missionary Church and most recently supported Radiant Church.

Adeline loved her family and those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Mary Krahulec of Bellevue, Nebraska; her son, John (Joyce) Zalas of South Bend; grandchildren, John Krahulec of Virginia and Annie (Jeremy White) Krahulec of Nebraska; great grandson, Zackary Krahulec; and her brother, Tom (June) Kajzer of South Bend.

Adeline’s beloved husband of 72 years, Stanley, preceded her in death on September 27, 2017. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Alesia Zalas; and son-in-law, Jack Krahulec.

Services honoring and celebrating the lives of Stanley and Adeline Zalas will be held at 11 am on Friday, October 27, in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Military honors will be provided for Stanley, a World War II US Army Veteran who earned a Purple Heart.

The Zalas family will receive friends from 10 – 11 am on Friday in the funeral home.
