Robert Jack Richardson, 94, of South Bend, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2019 at the Waterford in Mishawaka.
Robert, known to many as “Bob” or “Jack”, was born August 30, 1925 in Bayonne, New Jersey, the son of the late Rush and Marian (Paschal) Richardson. He grew up in Wisconsin and was a graduate of Wausau High School. Bob earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Tri-State College (Trine University) in Angola, Indiana. He served his country in the US Army during World War II.
Bob married Virginia “Ginny” Ransom on February 25, 1951 and the couple moved to South Bend in 1960.
Bob was a Civil Engineer. He retired in 1993 as the St. Joseph County Engineer. His prior employment included the Wisconsin Highway Department, the Indiana and Illinois Toll Roads, as well as consulting. Bob was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in South Bend and served on the Board of Elders and Council President. He also belonged to the St. Joseph County Professional Engineers Society. He enjoyed many activities which included golfing, bowling, reading, card games and jigsaw puzzles.
Bob’s surviving family includes his three children, Gay (John) Ingold of North Manchester, Scott (Cynthia) Richardson of Berrien Springs, and Mark (Linda) Richardson of Mishawaka; 18 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Ginny; a grandson, a great grandson and a sister.
A memorial service will be held at 4 pm on Friday, December 27, in Zion United Church of Christ, 211 South St. Peter Street, South Bend, with Rev. Dr. Janet Boyd officiating.
Visitation will be from 2 – 4 pm on Friday at the church prior to the service.
Private inurnment will take place in the mausoleum at Riverview Cemetery, South Bend.
Memorials are suggested to Zion United Church of Christ or Center for Hospice Care.
